The downtown Arts District is set for a major transformation as the city announces plans for a new cultural center, expanded gallery spaces, and improved pedestrian access connecting the neighborhood to the waterfront.

The $30 million revitalization project, funded through a combination of public bonds and private donations, aims to establish the district as a regional hub for visual arts, live performance, and creative entrepreneurship.

A Vision for Creative Community

Centerpiece of the plan is a 40,000-square-foot cultural center featuring exhibition halls, rehearsal studios, a 300-seat black-box theater, and co-working spaces for artists and creative startups.

The project also includes streetscape improvements with public art installations, better lighting, wider sidewalks, and a new pedestrian bridge over the railroad tracks that currently separate the district from the popular riverwalk.

Community members can attend an open house next Thursday to view architectural renderings and provide feedback on the plans before the final design phase begins.
